Washington Business Journal Recognizes William Bertrand
for Work as Corporate Counsel
GAITHERSBURG, Md., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MedImmune, Inc.
(Nasdaq: MEDI) announced today that the Washington Business Journal has
recognized William Bertrand, J.D. as one of the region's best lawyers at its
second annual "Top Washington Lawyers" awards reception held yesterday in
Washington, DC. Mr. Bertrand is the vice president, general counsel,
corporate secretary and corporate compliance officer at MedImmune.
The "Top Washington Lawyers" award honors local lawyers in fourteen
categories. The publication received more than 350 nominations. Mr. Bertrand
won the award in the category of General Counsel and was honored for his work
ethic and dedication to his profession. He was also recognized for his
contributions as an invaluable resource to the company and its daily
operations. This is the second recognition of MedImmune's senior management
by the publication. In December 2004, the Washington Business Journal honored
MedImmune's Lota Zoth, chief financial officer, as a "Woman Who Means
Business."

Mr. Bertrand joined MedImmune in November 2001. Since then, he has held
the titles of vice president, legal affairs; general counsel; corporate
secretary; and, corporate compliance officer. Under Mr. Bertrand's
leadership, MedImmune's legal affairs department has flourished from only four
members in 2001 to more than 20 members in 2005, including more than 10 full-
time attorneys. Over the past four years, he has established a number of
programs and processes designed to protect and improve MedImmune's business
and its work practices.
Mr. Bertrand is a Michigan native who holds a bachelor of science degree
in biology from Wayne State University and a juris doctorate (cum laude) from
the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Prior to joining MedImmune, Mr.
Bertrand served in various legal positions at Pharmacia Corporation from 1997-
2001, including litigation counsel, senior corporate counsel and associate
general counsel. He had also been associate general counsel for a life
insurance company; a partner at Dickinson, Wright, Moon, Van Dusen & Freeman
of Lansing, MI; and taught courses at various institutions, including Seton
Hall University School of Law.
