RSV/PIV-3 vaccine
MEDI-534 is a vaccine currently in Phase 1 clinical trials being developed to help protect against the RSV and PIV-3 viruses, two leading causes of pediatric respiratory disease. RSV is the most common cause of lower respiratory tract infections in infants and children worldwide, and PIV-3 is the leading cause of croup, an acute lower respiratory disease most often observed in young children. Preclinical study data suggest that the vaccine may offer protection against both RSV and PIV-3. The combination vaccine, which leverages MedImmune’s novel intranasal technology to target the viruses through a single intranasal immunization, is expected to offer ease of administration for pediatricians and their patients, and may help reduce RSV/PIV-3-associated illnesses and hospitalization in the United States.
